Classification of Mold Parts

2026-05-28 09:43:12

「Guide」This article provides a systematic classification of stamping mold parts from three dimensions: function, wear frequency & management, and storage form. It covers six functional categories (guide/positioning, forming/cutting, stripping/ejection, cam/slide

Based on stamping mold scenarios, this classification covers multiple dimensions: function, wear characteristics, application scenarios, and management attributes. It marks wear frequency and management points to facilitate warehousing, issuing, and inventory counting.

SG MOLD

I. Classification by Function (Most Common, Suitable for On-site Assembly/Maintenance)

(A) Guide and Positioning Parts

Function: Ensure mold opening/closing and clamping accuracy, prevent offset and mold damage.

  • Guide pillars, guide bushings, guide pillar auxiliary sleeves

  • Dowel pins, lifting pins, floating pins, stop pins

  • Positioning blocks, limit pins, limit sleeves, stoppers

  • Stock guide plates, stock guide pins, side guide plates

Features: High precision required, mostly standard parts; long lifespan under normal use, prone to wear from impact or eccentric load.

(B) Forming and Cutting Edge Parts (Core Functional Parts)

Function: Perform stamping, shearing, bending, drawing, and forming – directly determine product dimensions and appearance.

  • Blanking: Punches, dies, insert cutting edges, segmented cutting inserts, cut-off blades

  • Bending/Forming: Bending inserts, forming punches, forming dies, radius inserts

  • Drawing/Flanging: Drawing punches/dies, flanging inserts, pressure pad inserts

  • Shearing: Side cut-off blades, cut-off knives, corner cutting punches

Features: Core parts of the mold; highest wear rate, prone to chipping/wear/fracture; mostly non-standard parts, strict control, issue requires approval.

(C) Stripping and Ejection Parts

Function: Strip material, eject product/strip, prevent jamming and sticking.

  • Stripper plate assembly: stripper inserts, stripper bushings

  • Ejector pins, ejector plates, ejector rods, ejector blocks

  • Springs (rectangular springs, round wire springs, nitrogen gas springs)

  • Stripper bolts, height sleeves, ejection sleeves

Features: High-frequency moving parts, main source of consumables; mandatory exchange of old for new.

(D) Cam and Slide Parts (Side-action Mechanisms)

Function: Used in stamping dies with undercuts or side forming/piercing.

  • Cam drivers, slide bodies, slide inserts

  • Slide wear plates, thrust plates, clamps, gibs

  • Slide springs, return pins, limit blocks, slide stops

Features: High friction during movement; wear parts are routine consumables; overall mechanism has long lifespan.

(E) Fastening and Connection Parts

Function: Assembly and fixation of all components – common across molds.

  • Socket head cap screws, hex head screws, bolts, nuts

  • Washers, spring washers, flat washers, lock washers

  • Shoulder bolts, height bolts, tie rods

Features: Common standard small parts, high volume, low unit cost; maintain regular safety stock.

(F) Auxiliary, Protection and Accessory Parts

Function: Mold protection, lifting, lubrication, identification, insulation, etc.

  • Lifting: Lifting rings, lifting lugs, lifting bolts

  • Lubrication/Cooling: Grease nipples, oil pipes, oil cups, dust covers

  • Protection: Dust plates, protective covers, insulation plates

  • Others: Mold nameplates, identification tags, mold clamps, bumpers

II. Classification by Wear Frequency & Management Attributes (Warehouse + Cost Control)

  1. High-frequency consumables: Springs, ejector pins, lifting pins, dowel pins, small punches, small inserts, screws, washers, wear plates, stripper bushings.
→ High consumption, set safety stock, regular issue, mandatory exchange old for new.

  2. Medium-frequency wear parts: Guide pillars/bushings, limit pins, positioning blocks, stock guide parts, standard ejector assemblies.
→ Periodic replacement, purchase according to maintenance schedule.

  3. Low-frequency core parts: Large punches/dies, monolithic cutting edges, bending/forming inserts, slide bodies, cam drivers, pressure pad inserts.
→ Rarely replaced, purchase as needed (no stocking), issue requires approval.

  4. Standard common parts: Guide pillars/bushings, springs, screws, dowel pins, lifting rings, limit pins, standard ejector pins.
→ Readily available in market, uniform specifications, can be shared across multiple molds.

  5. Custom non-standard parts: Shaped punches, special inserts, non-standard cutting edges, custom forming blocks, special slide inserts.
→ Dedicated to a single mold, not interchangeable; machined per mold drawing.

  6. Repairable/reusable parts: Slightly worn cutting edges, deformed ejector rods, scored bushings, slightly damaged inserts.
→ Can be ground, welded, corrected, and reused after repair; store separately in a dedicated area.

  7. Scrap parts: Broken, severely chipped, deformed, or out-of-tolerance components.
→ Isolate in a separate area, prohibit reuse; dispose of regularly.

III. Classification by Storage/Form (5S Warehouse Arrangement)

  1. Small loose parts (screws, nuts, washers, small dowel pins) → Store in compartmentalized parts bins.

  2. Long rod-type parts (ejector pins, guide pillars, long dowels) → Store vertically to prevent bending.

  3. Plate/block-type parts (inserts, limit blocks, stoppers, wear plates) → Store flat on shelving.

  4. Springs → Segregate by outer diameter, wire diameter, and color code; store in separate boxes.

  5. Precision cutting edge parts (punches, dies, cutting edges) → Store individually in boxes, apply anti-rust oil, protect against impact.

  6. Large mechanism parts (slides, cam drivers, large inserts) → Store on bottom shelving, prevent tipping.

IV. Quick Reference Table (Can be used as warehouse identification signs)

Major Category Typical Part Names Management Points
